A sequel to Lego Star Wars: The Video Game, Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy is an action-adventure game, made for all ages. The game takes place in a Lego version of the Star Wars universe and follows the story of Star Wars Episodes IV, V, and VI. The game takes a more humorous stance on everything and adds small comedic moments that were not present in the films, making it a lighthearted retelling of the original Star Wars story.
Gameplay
The gameplay is largely the same as it was in its prequel, having players advance through levels that have been based off major plot points from the Star Wars movies.
As you progress through the levels, your goal is to collect a certain amount of Lego Bricks to score new unlockables, like secret characters. This mechanic makes replaying the game exciting, giving players a goal to reach beyond just completing the storyline.
Lego Star Wars allows players to choose from a list of Star Wars characters to bring with them through their journey. Each character type, Jedi, Bounty Hunter, etc., has special abilities that will assist in finding secret areas on maps.
Through your travels in the game world, you collect Lego Studs, which serve as a currency, allowing you to buy new characters. The character selection process is great because it provides access to dozens of different characters from the Star Wars lore. This gives replays of the game a twist, making it different every time, and providing hours of fun gameplay.
Multiplayer
The only multiplayer format in Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy is cooperative campaign mode. An interesting feature with the multiplayer is that a second player can join at any time. Even when one player is in the middle of a campaign mission, the second player will be able to join seamlessly. The same works in reverse. If a second player needs to leave, they are able to drop out of the game, letting a computer AI take over for them. This provides a seamless gaming experience, which is perfect for busy families.
